October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

As we begin Dyslexia Awareness Month, we want to take a moment to highlight something incredibly important: understanding dyslexia is one of the first steps in supporting children with dyslexia.

Children with dyslexia may experience challenges with reading, spelling, writing, processing language, and other areas of learning. At the same time, dyslexia does not reflect a child’s intelligence, effort, or potential. When families understand how dyslexia can impact learning, we are better equipped to recognize children’s needs, provide appropriate support at home, and work together to help them experience success.

Our Dyslexia Download: Week 1 – Recap of Dyslexia. It provides a quick overview of what dyslexia is, how common it is, and some of the challenges children with dyslexia may experience. We encourage you to take a few minutes to look through the information and consider how it might connect to your child.

A little understanding can make a BIG difference! When children know that their families and teachers understand how they learn best, it can help build confidence, reduce frustration, and encourage them to persevere when learning feels difficult.

Please remember that you don't have to navigate this alone! The Dyslexia Department is here to support you. If you have questions about your child, would like ideas for home support, or simply want to learn more about dyslexia, please reach out to one of our Dyslexia Therapists. We are always happy to collaborate, answer questions, and help you find ways to support your child.

Thank you for the important role you play in helping our students recognize their strengths, overcome challenges, and become confident learners!
