Hondo ISD Bond 2026 Infomation Video Hondo ISD Bond 2026 Show Transcript Hi. I'm Rose Mary Mares. I'm the proud Superintendent of Hondo ISD. Hondo ISD has called a May 2026 bond in the amount of $30 million. Proposition A for $25 million includes security vestibules at Hondo High School and Woolls Intermediate, renovation of culinary arts at Hondo High School, restroom renovations at Hondo High School, Meyer Woolls and McDowell, expansion of cafeteria kitchen at Meyer, boys and girls locker room renovations at McDowell Middle School, replacement of district-wide intercom system, replacement of district-wide HVAC units 15 years and older, TxDot garage renovations for CTE programs, regrade and repave of district-wide parking lots. Proposition B is in the amount of $3 million. This includes baseball and softball field renovations. Proposition C in the amount of $2 million includes renovations to home restrooms at Barry Field, demolition and reconstruction of visitor restrooms at Barry Field. Last year we had TASB come out and do a facilities assessment as far as our facilities at our school. We formed a committee, people from the city and around, through that process -- they met at least 6 months -- and figured out exactly what needed to be done. They came to the board with their suggestions and from that we decided to call a bond. The proposed tax impact is a 2-cent tax rate increase. This means the $215,000 home value will a monthly impact of $1.25 a month. Hondo ISD residents 65 and older, with an applicable over 65 exemption, have their Hondo ISD tax bill frozen. Future Property Appraisal increases or tax rate increases will not impact your bill. However significant improvements to your existing Homestead can affect your bill. For questions on how to apply visit your county Appraisal District's website. Hi. I'm Carrie Frasier. I'm Secretary of the school board. I've been on the Hondo ISD board for 14 years, and I I've lived in Hondo for 20 years. This Bond will affect students all the way from elementary through High School. In 2015 the district tax rate was $1.38. The projected tax rate if the bond passes is 95 cents. Meyer Elementary, our cafeteria, is going to be on the list to see changes for our kitchen, an expansion and restrooms would be included for students. Our littles, as most of you know, they have to go potty and go potty often. In addition to our cafeteria and our cafeteria restrooms, we are also looking at our restrooms campus wide. Some of those challenges include plumbing issues beyond what we can take care of just with regular maintenance at this time. My name is Tim Graff. I'm the Principal here at McDowell Middle School. I've been here for 4 years as a principal, but this will be my 20th year overall in the district. There's a lot that I love about Hondo. I came to McDowell here as a student. We used to go fifth grade through eighth grade. So it's been around a long time. When you look at things like our bathroom facilities or our locker room facilities, clearly they're dated. Being able to bring all those students 6, 7th and 8th graders in that same space, have them prepare for either PE or pre- Athletics or athletic class in that same space -- you're talking about changing their mindset when they walk into McDowell -- not waiting to be a seventh grader. But as soon as you walk into McDowell you're part of what what this team is and what you're going to grow into. And our seventh and eighth graders are again making do with the locker room space that doesn't allow them to do some of the things you would normally do in a locker room such as have team meetings, such as go over strategies. All of those things have to happen elsewhere. Students at the elementary will not only see the impact this year, but in years to come as they move through the Hondo ISD school system. Early voting runs from April 20th to April 28th. Election day is May 2nd 2026. For more information visit our Hondo ISD bond website at hondoisdbond.com Go Owls!
