Federal Programs

Hondo ISD receives funds from numerous federal grants. Our Special Programs Department is responsible for the following federal programs in our school district:

  • Title I, Part A - Improving Basic Programs
The purpose of Title I, Part A funds is to provide supplemental funding to our district for resources to help our schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families provide a high-quality education that will enable all children to meet the state's student performance standards. Title I, Part A supports our schools in implementing a schoolwide program. Our program implements effective methods and instructional strategies that are grounded in scientifically based research.

  • Title I, Part C - Education of Migratory Children
The purpose of the Migrant Education Program is to design and support programs that help migrant students overcome the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory lifestyle in order to succeed in school and to successfully transition to postsecondary education or employment.

  • Title II, Part A - Teacher & Principal Training & Recruiting (TPTR)
TPTR provides supplemental funding to improve student achievement by elevating teacher and principal quality through recruitment, hiring, and retention strategies to improve teacher and principal quality and increase the number of highly qualified teachers in the classroom and highly qualified principals and assistant principals in schools. The program uses scientifically based professional development interventions and holds districts and schools accountable for improvements in student academic performance. Title II, Part A also funds three additional teachers in our district to reduce classroom size.

  • Title III, Part A - Language Instruction for LEP Students
The purpose of the Title III, Part A program is to provide supplemental resources to our district to help ensure that our children who are limited English proficient attain English proficiency at high levels in the core academic subjects to meet state mandated achievement performance standards.
